What is Facial Acupuncture?
Used for centuries, this holistic treatment involves the use of fine needles to work both at the skin level and at the muscle level to bring a smoother, more youthful appearance to the face and neck. Unlike other cosmetic skin therapies, Acupuncture works at a deep level to treat the root of your skin issues, targeting inflammation, stress, lack of sleep, poor cellular regeneration, allergies, digestive problems, and hormone imbalances. We also use the ancient art of Chinese Face Reading to conduct a deep analysis on how life events, relationships, and experiences are affecting your health and well-being.
Acupuncture is used in several combinations:
Traditional Acupuncture points are used on the head and body to relieve stress and work on underlying health issues.
Tiny needles are used at skin level to stimulate collagen production, increase healthy circulation, and improve appearance of scars and dark spots.
Muscle trigger points are released to erase tension lines which cause wrinkling and sagging of the face and neck. Muscle motor points are used to help to restore proper balance of facial muscles and relieve areas of tension.
Treatment is weekly for 10 sessions and there is no downtime afterwards. Results last from 3-5 years with occasional maintenance sessions.
What is Microneedling?
Using the AcuLift™ MicroPen System, tiny needles create micro-channels on the surface of the skin. These micro-channels stimulate a healing response in the skin, which increases the production of both collagen and elastin. This system works beautifully for skin level issues such as dry and dull skin, fine lines, acne scars, dark spots, and enlarged pores. Four treatments, once a month will produce results that last up to five years. Some skin redness and exfoliation may occur, and there is a 12-24 hour downtime after each treatment where you will not wear cosmetics or have sun exposure.
Your treatment package includes 4 monthly Microneedling sessions with 10 weekly Facial Acupuncture sessions spaced in between and after Microneedling. The program is fully customized to your unique skin and health concerns. The skin care products used for your treatments are premium quality, vegan, and organic, and you will be provided with after care products included in your treatment fee.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I come in for a single session of facial ACUPUNCTURE or just for microneedling?
Due to the holistic nature of our health care practice, we are not offering microneedling as a stand alone session without acupuncture treatment at this time. We highly recommend consulting a qualified esthetician if your goal is to use micro needling alone. Combined with Facial Acupuncture we will work to support your entire system to naturally optimize your health and appearance. We recommend completing the full series of treatments, 10 for Facial Acupuncture, and 4 for Microneedling, for best results. Afterwards, you are welcome to come in for single sessions as maintenance. Is the treatment painful?
Facial Acupuncture uses small needles which are retained in the skin for a rest time of around 25-30 minutes. There may be a tiny pinch or sensation with insertion, but after the needles are placed you will not feel them and most patients find this procedure incredibly relaxing. If you have had other facial procedures previously, this will be super easy and tolerable for you, and if you are new to work on the face, you’ll become adjusted to any minor discomfort in no time. Angela has worked for years developing her gentle technique and will ensure your comfort at each stage.
With Microneedling, a numbing cream is applied to the face and other treatment areas, and most patients feel next to nothing during their session.
What kind of results should I expect?
Patients often look radiant and rested after just one session of Facial Acupuncture, however, the entire series is needed to get lasting results. After about 5-6 treatments, patients will start to see changes in their appearance. After 10 sessions, results will last up to 5 years with occasional maintenance. For Microneedling, results are sometimes seen within 1-2 weeks after a session, with most results after 4 weeks when the collagen production cycle has begun to influence the skin’s health and appearance. After 4 treatments, results can last up to 5 years with good skin care and health practices.
Are there any contraindications to Facial Acupuncture and Microneedling?
Both Facial Acupuncture and Microneedling are proven safe and effective, however certain conditions are contraindicated for treatment:
For Facial Acupuncture: Unregulated high blood pressure, problems with bleeding or bruising, severe migraine, Parkinson’s Disease, Diabetes mellitus, immune suppression, pregnancy. We don’t treat over areas of recent microdermabrasion, laser, Botox, and dermal fillers.
For Microneedling: Accutane within 6 months, scleroderma, collagen vascular disease, cardiac abnormalities, rosacea, blood clotting problems and anticoagulation therapy (i.e.: Warfarin), facial cancer (past and present), chemotherapy, steroid therapy, diabetes, dermatological diseases affecting the face, active bacterial infections, over areas of active acne break outs, Botox/facial fillers in the past 2-4 weeks, pregnancy and nursing.
